Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about BrowserTools and how it works.

Is my data safe? Where is it stored?
Your data never leaves your browser. All processing — file editing, screen recording, and TOTP generation — happens entirely on your device using browser APIs. Nothing is uploaded to any server, and no data is stored after you close the tab.
Do I need to install anything?
No. BrowserTools works directly in your web browser — no downloads, no browser extensions, no sign-ups. Just open the page and start using the tools.
Does it work offline?
After the page loads, most tools work without an internet connection. The File Editor and TOTP Generator are fully functional offline. The Screen Recorder requires the initial page load but works offline after that.
What browsers are supported?
BrowserTools works on all modern browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. For the best experience with the Screen Recorder, Chrome or Edge is recommended as they offer the widest screen-sharing support.
Can I self-host this?
Yes. BrowserTools is a fully static website with no backend dependencies. You can host it on GitHub Pages, Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare Pages, or any web server that serves static files.
